Vietnamese extortionists collared

Five Vietnamese landed in jail after they fell in an entrapment operation laid down by police following complaints of extortion in Makati City.

Initial reports disclosed that elements of the Makati Police's station investigation detective management personnel conducted the operation along Leviste Street, Salcedo Village, Barangay Bel-Air Makati City at about 1:30 a.m. on 27 December.

Police said that the suspects — identified as Thai Huy Tuan, Phan Huu Dat, Nguyen Ly Huynh, Phan Van Thanh, all employed at Jinzhou Technologies and a certain Tran Trung Tuyen.

The operation stemmed from the complaints of the victim identified as Do Mahn Tuan that he was held against his will by the suspects inside the VIP Room of Yakale Restaurant, located along Yakal Street in Barangay San Antonio. He was only released after paying P250,000.

On 26 December 2022, the victim received a call and text messages from the suspects who demanded P100,000 and threatened that if he will not pay, he and his family will be kidnapped.

With the complaint, an entrapment operation was initiated at Island Plaza located along Leviste Street., Barangay Bel-Air.

After the suspects got hold of the entrapment money, police personnel swiftly acted and arrested the suspects and recovered the entrapment money and two butcher knives from Thai Huy Tuan's possession.

The suspects are presently detained at Makati City Police Station while complaints for robbery extortion are being prepared against them.
