Two women on Sunday had their partners arrested in Quezon City for physical and verbal abuse under Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act.
Quezon City Police District chief P/Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said the first incident happened in Barangay Mabilo with a 33–year-old vendor filing a complaint against her live-in partner.
The man berated and beat up the woman, according to the police complaint, when she fetched him from a late-night drinking session with friends.
She went straight to the nearby police station to file a complaint, afraid to come home from the incident. The police arrested the man the next day, Monday.
In the other complaint under RA 9262, a lady guard, 36, was rescued by village guards from a beating being dealt her by his drunk 42-year-old husband whom she confronted over alleged drug use.
The incident in Barangay Culiat arose from a report by one of the couple's children that he was using shabu. When the man came home, he kicked and punched his wife, causing a commotion that attracted the attention of the passing tanods.
