Manila Police District chief P/Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon has relieved a policeman for allegedly threatening with his gun six youths in Sampaloc over a misdemeanor complaint.
Dizon pulled out P/Cpl. Marvin Castro from his post at the University Belt area under MPD police station 4 so he can be oriented on proper procedures when making arrests.
Castro will also be subjected to psychological evaluation to determine his fitness to continue serving as a policeman, Dizon said.
The teenagers were accosted by the policeman over complaints of being rowdy and noisy.
Dizon said he was dismayed seeing a news report on the incident.
"As of now, there are no complaints yet here at the MPD, but just the same I ordered his relief so he can undergo psychological testing," Dizon said, adding Castro will be assigned at the MPD holding area in the meantime.
The teens were said to be members of the University of Santo Tomas judo team who were celebrating a competition victory, thus their merrymaking.
Dizon told Daily Tribune in a phone interview that it was Castro's job to ensure law and order prevails by responding to complaints and to effect arrests, if so warranted.
However, the cop may have gone overboard by drawing his firearm, the MPD chief added.
Castro has apologized to the parents of the teens in a hearing in the barangay where the incident happened.
