Lacuna greenlights Manila Zoo reopening

Pat C. Santos

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo have given the Manila Zoo a final inspection and have declared the facility ready for its reopening on 21 November.

The reopening was originally scheduled for 15 November but was moved a few days for some "finishing touches" following a comprehensive rehabilitation dating back to the previous administration.

Lacuna directed Park and Recreation Bureau chief Pio Morabe to ensure that the names of the plants and trees, especially their scientific names, are correct for the visiting youngsters.

She told this reporter that only 2,000 people would be allowed to visit the park each day.

Those planning to visit are encouraged to buy their tickets online, via manilazoo.ph, although 500 slots will also be allotted for walk-ins.

Payments may be made in the kiosks, 7-11, bank transfer, credit card, GCash or Bayad Centers.

On special occasions like Christmas, Lacuna said the total number of visitors allowed may be increased.
