The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Thursday said it continues to detect a series of aftershocks, ranging from magnitudes 1.3 to 4.8, following a magnitude 6.4 earthquake that jolted provinces of Northern Luzon on 25 October.

Phivolcs has so far recorded 1,229 aftershocks, 420 of which were plotted while only 26 were felt in the region and its neighboring areas.

The state seismology previously explained that recorded earthquakes were those logged by at least one seismic station while three or more stations detect the plotted tremors.

The highest intensity of the aftershocks was at Earthquake Intensity Scale VII.

The epicenter of the 6.4-magnitude earthquake was located seven kilometers Northwest of Lagayan, Abra, affecting some 34,191 families or 114,829 persons.

It also destroyed 13,446 houses in the Ilocos regions, Cagayan Valley, and Cordillera Administrative Region.

The estimated cost of infrastructure damages in these regions reached Php 84,974,250 and one severely-hit bridge in Cordillera remained not passable as of this press time.
