Rihanna is back after a six-year long hiatus.

The Barbadian singer, actor and philanthropist has recorded "Lift Me Up" for the 2022 Marvel superhero movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The track was written in honor of Chadwick Boseman, the actor who played the titular role in the original Black Panther 2018. He died after a four-year battle with colon cancer in 2020.

"Lift Me Up" was co-written by Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems, Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna, and the movie's director/co-writer Ryan Coogler.

It was recorded in five countries, produced by Göransson, and will be released on 28 October on Rihanna's own Westbury Road label in partnership with Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings and Hollywood Records.

"After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I've lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them, said Tems in a statement.

"Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor."

"Lift Me Up" comes after Rihanna's 2016 album Anti. The 34-year-old pop star will headline the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever takes off on the heels of King T'Challa's death, when heroes of the kingdom of Wakanda must unite to protect it from intervening foreign powers.

The movie, along with the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Original Score will be released simultaneously on 11 November.
