Many celebrities' foray into the perfume business proved lucrative as their fan base serves as a captive market for their products. Among the successful ones are Jennifer Lopez who has grown her scent line to 32 brands since launching her J Lo brand neroli-grapefruit scent Glow in 2002, according to Harper's Bazaar.

The American singer, actress, and dancer also inspired other stars to hop into the celebrity perfume bandwagon. Singer Rihanna has been in the perfume business since 2010 and recently launched her latest product, "Fenty Eau de Parfum," in the United States last August. The magnolia and musk scent immediately sold out, HB reported.

Singer-composer Billie Eilish launched her amber vanilla scent bearing her surname in the US in November 2021 and in the United Kingdom in March. The product also sold out.

Sales of Britney Spears' 33 fragrances rose 310 percent since she announced her engagement to Iranian-American model Sam Ashgari on Instagram on 12 September. Spears, who launched "mElectric Fantasy and Fantasy Sheer this month, earned $100 million from her first product, Curious, launched in 2004, according to HB.

Other stars with their own perfume brands are Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Aniston, Christina Aguilera, David Beckham, Beyoncé, Naomi Campbell, Paris Hilton, Mariah Carey, and Madonna, HB said.

Fans patronize celebrity perfumes to smell like their famous idol or feel close to them. But one extraordinary celebrity's scent touts it as the smell of success.

Wearing the Burnt Hair scent is "just like leaning over a candle at the dinner table, but without all the hard work," its video commercial on the website of infrastructure services company, The Boring Company, pitches. Another descriptive, "essence of repugnant desire," adds an aura of mystery to the intriguingly named perfume that may not literally smell like burnt hair.

Of course, the 109 million Twitter followers of the seller wanted the billionaire's prosperity to rub off on them. They bought 20,000 bottles of Burnt Hair during his preselling drive last week. At $100 per bottle, the omnigender perfume added $2 million worth of preorders to the guy's already vast fortune.

Venturing into scent business had been considered by the man whose namesake is perfume. Now that Elon Musk is a perfume salesman, the richest person of the world probably doesn't mind not making a profit from Burnt Hair.
