The Army's Third Infantry Division said Monday putting up peace zones in areas that are infiltrated by terrorist groups would be conducive to securing the future of children.

According to 3ID commander Major Gen Benedict Arevalo, the peace zones play a very crucial role in putting an emphasis on the security of Filipino children against insurgency and wrong ideologies pushed by the terrorist groups.

"Peace zones, will further strengthen our preservation and the security of our future, specifically under the shoulders that given to our children, and we must not forget that our children of today are our future of tomorrow," Arevalo said.

He added that the government should act now to secure the children to prevent the chance for them to engage into the armed struggle.

"It is important to us to really strengthen and hopefully expand these peace zones in the different sectors and eventually not only in the education sector but in the different sectors that we have," she added.

"It is not only protecting our children, it is actually protecting our future," he said.

Among the other signatories of the pact are the regional heads of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Education, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, Philippine National Police, Commission on Higher Education, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and Philippine Science, High School Western Visayas Campus.
