BDO Unibank is strengthening its push for digital financial inclusion with the rollout of its Basic Account, designed to make account opening faster and more accessible for first-time savers.
Through the BDO Pay app, users can open a Basic Account using a valid passport or other government-issued ID, with approval typically completed within one day.
The account requires no initial deposit and no maintaining balance, removing common barriers that often discourage young Filipinos from entering the formal banking system.
Once activated, clients can pay bills, send money, scan to pay at partner merchants and split bills directly from their account within the app. Transactions are linked straight to the Basic Account, allowing users to track spending without transferring funds between separate digital wallets.
Account holders may also request a physical BDO Pay card, enabling free withdrawals at BDO ATMs nationwide.
By combining app-based onboarding with access to its nationwide branch network, BDO positions the Basic Account as a bridge between digital convenience and traditional banking support.
