Cathay Pacific Airways has suspended several flights between Hong Kong and major U.S. cities as a powerful winter storm threatened to disrupt air travel across large parts of the United States.

The airline canceled multiple services to New York, Boston, and Dallas as Winter Storm Fern swept from Texas to New England, bringing heavy snow, ice accumulation, and hazardous travel conditions. The storm triggered widespread disruption across U.S. airports, with nearly 4,000 flights canceled nationwide, according to flight-tracking data.

Cathay Pacific said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and crew, as severe weather conditions affected key air corridors and airport operations.

On Sunday alone, at least four Cathay Pacific flights were grounded, including three Hong Kong–New York services. Among those canceled were flight CX 844, scheduled to depart at 3:25 a.m., CX 830 at 9:30 a.m., and CX 840 at 4:30 p.m. The airline also canceled CX 812, a Hong Kong–Boston flight scheduled for departure at 7:40 p.m.

While the airline has not disclosed the total number of flights affected, it said additional cancellations and delays remained possible depending on weather developments. Cathay Pacific has offered rebooking flexibility and fee waivers to passengers impacted by the disruptions.

U.S. airports continued to grapple with the storm’s effects, including runway closures and ground delays, compounding challenges for airlines during the peak winter travel period. Airlines across the region warned travelers to expect ongoing delays as recovery operations continued.

Cathay Pacific advised passengers traveling to or from the United States to monitor flight status updates closely and coordinate with the airline regarding alternative arrangements.
