BYD closed 2025 with numbers that even longtime industry players noticed. The Chinese electric vehicle brand sold 26,122 units in the Philippines, its strongest year since entering the market.

The figure makes BYD the fastest-growing car brand in the country last year, based on company data.

The growth was not tied to a single model. Two vehicles stood out across different segments. The BYD Seagull led the brand’s battery electric vehicle sales with 4,608 units, while the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i topped the company’s plug-in hybrid lineup.

They showed how Filipino buyers are spreading their interest across both full electric and hybrid options.

BYD’s local operation, BYD Cars Philippines, said demand came from a wide range of buyers, from first-time EV owners to households adding a second car.

The brand now leads the country’s New Energy Vehicle segment, which includes battery electric and plug-in hybrid models.

Bob Palanca, managing director of BYD Cars Philippines, said last year marked a shift in how Filipinos view electrified vehicles.

He pointed to stronger acceptance beyond early adopters and buyers in Metro Manila. He said the brand’s approach has focused on keeping prices within reach while expanding options.

Alongside the sales announcement, BYD confirmed it has renewed its passenger car distributorship agreement with ACMobility. The partnership began in August 2023 and will continue as BYD scales up its local operations.

The renewed agreement keeps ACMobility as BYD’s exclusive distributor in the Philippines. ACMobility is part of the Ayala Group, which has been investing heavily in electric vehicle infrastructure over the past few years.

The company handles sales, after-sales, and charging support for BYD customers.

One visible result of that partnership is dealer growth. BYD ended 2025 with 79 operational dealerships nationwide. That number was just 25 at the end of 2024.

New locations opened not only in major cities but also in provincial areas, giving the brand a wider footprint than many newer carmakers.

Adam Hu, country head of BYD Philippines, said the extended partnership signals a long-term plan rather than a short-term sales push. He said the goal is to make new energy vehicles a normal choice for everyday driving, not a niche product.

ACMobility continues to expand its charging network across Luzon, with sites also operating in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.

The company is also building digital platforms that allow drivers to locate chargers and service centers more easily.

The challenge now is sustaining that pace as competition in the EV space continues to grow, and more global brands enter the Philippine market.
