The Philippine Navy has deployed its guided-missile frigate BRP Jose Rizal (FF150) to conduct a search and rescue (SAR) operation for a Singaporean-flagged cargo vessel that capsized in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

According to the Naval Defense Command, BRP Jose Rizal was ordered on 23 January to proceed immediately to the vicinity about 55 nautical miles northwest of Bajo de Masinloc, Zambales, after receiving reports that the cargo vessel MV Devon Bay had overturned in the area.

Initial information indicated that 14 of the vessel’s 21 crew members—all Filipinos—were rescued and reported to be in stable condition, with one receiving medical treatment. Two fatalities were confirmed, while four crew members remain missing as of this writing.

The Philippine Navy said other government agencies also deployed search and rescue assets to augment ongoing efforts, maximizing available capabilities to locate the missing crew and provide assistance to survivors.

Search operations remain ongoing as authorities continue to coordinate closely with relevant agencies to ensure a timely and effective response.

The Navy reiterated its commitment to maritime safety and humanitarian assistance, emphasizing its readiness to conduct search and rescue missions in support of seafarers in distress within Philippine maritime areas and beyond.
