As online scams become more sophisticated, GCash is reminding users to strengthen their digital safety habits, warning that many fraud schemes still rely on familiar tactics to trick victims into clicking malicious links.

The finance app reiterated its long-standing reminder to users to avoid clicking links sent via text messages, emails, or social media, a common entry point for SMS spoofing scams designed to steal personal and account information.

According to GCash, scammers often impersonate government agencies, financial institutions, or trusted authorities to pressure users into acting quickly. These messages typically use fear, urgency, or promises of rewards to manipulate emotions and cloud judgment.

GCash said that while fraud schemes continue to evolve, users can reduce risks by reinforcing basic security practices, including regularly updating their MPIN, enabling biometric authentication, and activating the app’s “Account Secure” feature, which limits account access to a single registered device.

The company said these steps help prevent unauthorized access even if scammers manage to obtain personal details, noting that biometric security adds an extra layer of protection that cannot be easily copied or stolen.
