Senator Christopher “Bong” Go provided relief assistance Monday to 172 families displaced by a late December fire in Barangay Addition Hills.
The relief operation, held at the barangay’s evacuation center, addressed the needs of residents affected by a 27 December blaze. Working with Barangay Captain Carlito Cernal, Go’s team distributed food packs, vitamins, water containers, and clothing. Some residents also received bicycles and shoes.
Speaking to the victims via video call, Go urged residents to remain hopeful.
“Don’t lose hope; let’s just help each other,” Go said. “I will serve you to the best of my ability.”
The outreach follows a similar mission in July 2025, when Go’s team assisted more than 500 fire victims in the same neighborhood.
Go, who serves as vice chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health, used the event to highlight the availability of medical assistance through Malasakit Centers. He is the principal author of the Malasakit Centers Act, which established one-stop shops in public hospitals to help low-income patients cover medical expenses.
According to the Department of Health, 167 centers are currently operating nationwide, including one at the National Center for Mental Health in Mandaluyong.
The senator also cited recent legislative efforts to improve disaster response, including the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which mandates permanent evacuation centers in every municipality, and the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act.
