Former U.S. President Joe Biden could earn the highest pension in U.S. presidential history.

Demian Brady, vice president of the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, told the New York Post that his pension is $417,000 a year.

This is “historically unusual,” Brady said, outpacing the current presidential salary of $400,000.

“Biden is making more in retirement than the current president gets (in a salary),” Brady said.

The estimate reflects Biden’s long career in politics. He qualifies for benefits under the Former Presidents Act of 1958 and retirement pay from the Civil Service Retirement System for his time as a senator and vice president.

However, it remains unclear whether Biden will actually claim all of those benefits.
