The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) continued surprise inspections of transport terminals and public utility vehicles Friday to protect travelers returning from the holiday break.
LTFRB chairperson Vigor Mendoza II said in a statement that bus companies and transport operators must ensure their vehicles are roadworthy for the post-holiday travel surge.
He also cited that the agency recorded two fatal crashes during the recent holiday season and is aiming for zero incidents during the current travel exodus.
“The compliance of the bus companies and other transport operators will be checked and tested during the conduct of random and surprise inspections in coordination with other government agencies,” Mendoza said.
He also directed LTFRB regional directors to address commuter complaints immediately, with a specific focus on taxi drivers who refuse passengers or attempt to negotiate fixed fares instead of using meters.
The LTFRB chief stressed that these issues are particularly prevalent at airports.
“Rogue PUV drivers will become more confident in their illegal activities if no one complains,” Mendoza said. “Let us work together on this.”
