First Gen Corp. (FGEN), through its 1,700-megawatt (MW) renewable energy portfolio, is now supplying geothermal power to Divine Mercy Wellness and Medical Center (DMWMC) in Tuguegarao City.
The Lopez-led firm said Saturday that, under a new agreement, it will supply DMWMC with direct geothermal power from its Tongonan plant in Leyte, enabling the hospital to transition to renewable energy fully.
“Geothermal power provides a clean, reliable, and consistent energy source — qualities that are vital for hospitals. We are privileged to support DMWMC as we advance decarbonization efforts and champion environmental and community well-being,” FGEN chief customer engagement officer Carlo Vega said.
The supply is facilitated through the government’s Green Energy Option Program, which allows qualified consumers with an average peak demand of at least 100 kilowatts to procure their entire electricity requirement from renewable energy suppliers.
DMWMC is a 100-bed facility staffed by more than 200 medical specialists offering 24/7 radiology, pathology, laboratory, and other ancillary services. It is part of the Mount Grace Hospitals network, under the UNILAB Group.
Ecological crusade
“Our partnership with First Gen reinforces our commitment to environmental stewardship while ensuring the provision of high-quality healthcare. By embracing renewable energy, we reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future for the communities we serve,” DMWMC president Godofredo Cruz said.
FGEN operates 1,700 MW of renewable energy from geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar, and holds a 40 percent stake in four gas-fired plants totaling 2,017 MW, majority-owned by Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc.
