President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the inauguration of the $100-million Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Complex (KAMIC) in Barangay Kalikid Sur, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, on 10 December.
The KAMIC aims to strengthen the country’s capacity to develop and manufacture farm machinery, boost agricultural productivity, and increase farmers’ incomes.
The facility will assemble and produce various agricultural equipment, such as tractors and seeders, specifically designed for local farming conditions.
President Marcos said the project is expected to create thousands of jobs, stimulate local businesses, and transform the agricultural manufacturing sector by expanding access to modern farming technologies.
The facility is a collaboration among the Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative (KAMICO), the Cabanatuan City government, and the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., along with officials from KAMICO, Fit Korea Trading Inc., the DA–Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech), and the Cabanatuan City government, took part in the inauguration.
KAMICO, a federation of Korean farm equipment manufacturers, partnered with the DA to boost local farm mechanization by establishing assembly plants and transferring technology, with the goal of increasing farmer incomes and reducing reliance on imported machinery.
