The National Police Commission (Napolcom) said Tuesday it has convened accredited Philippine National Police uniform suppliers to discuss strengthened regulatory measures and enhanced accountability in the manufacturing, sale, distribution and use of the official PNP uniform.
The meeting focused on the increasing prevalence of unauthorized sellers, both near the PNP National Headquarters and on various online selling platforms, which authorities say undermines uniform authenticity and compromises institutional standards.
Napolcom chief Commissioner Rafael Vicente Calinisan stressed the importance of preserving the integrity of the police uniform as a symbol of public trust and professionalism.
“The PNP uniform is not just clothing, it is a badge of honor that represents duty, integrity, and public service,” Calinisan said. “We cannot allow unauthorized reproduction and illegal selling to tarnish that symbol. Napolcom will intensify enforcement and ensure that only legitimate suppliers are part of this system of accountability.”
He underscored that the commission is committed to implementing stricter measures, both on the ground and online, to ensure compliance, prevent misuse and protect the credibility of the police service.
The meeting marks the beginning of more coordinated regulatory efforts between Napolcom and accredited suppliers.
The push for tighter regulations follows a controversy after a partygoer wore a modified PNP uniform for Halloween in Makati City. Acting PNP Chief P/Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. previously stressed that the uniform should never be used as a gimmick or novelty outfit.
“The uniform represents the trust and responsibility vested in our police officers; it should always be treated with respect,” Nartatez said in a statement.
