Rockstar Games has officially postponed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, moving the launch date to 19 November 2026, the company announced Thursday.
The highly anticipated open-world title was originally slated for release in May 2026, but the studio said it will need additional time to finalize development and ensure the game meets quality expectations.
In a statement, Rockstar apologized for the delay but emphasized that the decision was made to deliver a polished experience.
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” Rockstar said.
The company also thanked fans for their continued patience, noting excitement for the game’s return to a modernized Vice City, set within the new fictional state of Leonida.
“While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City,” the statement read.
Grand Theft Auto VI marks the first mainline entry in the franchise since Grand Theft Auto V launched in 2013. It is expected to be one of the biggest entertainment releases of the decade.
Rockstar did not release new footage alongside the announcement, nor did it provide further details on gameplay or story features.
