A Pasig City court has denied the request of detained Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KoJC) founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy for hospital arrest, ruling that his current medical condition does not warrant special confinement outside of jail.
In a six-page order dated 8 October 2025, Acting Presiding Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa of the Pasig Regional Trial Court Branch 159 dismissed Quiboloy’s motion for lack of merit.
The court also denied as moot the prosecution’s motion for reconsideration of an earlier order allowing the accused to undergo medical examinations at the Philippine Heart Center.
To recall, Quiboloy had sought confinement at either the Philippine Heart Center or The Medical City. He cited persistent issues, including shortness of breath, fever, muscle pain and cough while in detention, along with chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes and coronary artery disease.
His camp argued that the State is obliged to ensure the health and safety of persons deprived of liberty.
The prosecution opposed the plea, noting that Quiboloy merely repeated arguments from a previously denied motion for house arrest and that his condition was not distinct from that of other detainees.
In its decision, the court cited a progress report from the Pasig City Jail Superintendent and clinical abstracts from Quiboloy’s attending physicians. These medical reports indicated that his vital signs had improved, he had no health complaints since 24 September and was cleared for discharge by specialists in cardiology, pulmonary, and nephrology on 25 and 26 September.
