Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III decried the fake news making the rounds on social media against him.
"For the information of my colleagues, numerous and coordinated fake news reports have been circulating regarding new tax measures allegedly proposed by me," Sotto said.
"In my 24 years in the Senate, I have never proposed any tax measures. In fact, I have consistently voted against them," he added.
In an interview after Friday's session, Sotto said there appears to be a concerted effort to discredit him and the Senate, which they only noticed on 8 September.
He added that since 8 September, every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, "fake news comes out against [him], Senator [Ping] Lacson, and Senator [Migz] Zubiri."
When asked why he thinks they would be targeted, Sotto said their critics may have found no credible grounds against them, thus resorting to spreading fake news.
"For the peddlers of fake news, ipagdadasal ko na lang kayo (I will just pray for you)."
