President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday officially launched his flagship food security program dubbed “Benteng Bigas, Meron Na” in the municipality of Bien Unido, Bohol.
Malacañan Palace said the program, spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture (DA), marks a significant step toward fulfilling Marcos’ long-standing commitment to provide affordable and accessible food for every Filipino.
The initial rollout in Bien Unido is expected to benefit around 2,700 residents, including senior citizens, solo parents, persons with disabilities (PWDs), Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries, farmers, fisherfolk, and minimum wage earners.
Marcos also led the turnover of agricultural inputs and equipment to local farmers and fisherfolk, underscoring his administration’s dual focus on supporting food producers while ensuring consumers have access to nutritious and affordable staples.
