This year’s Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) voter registration has been the most successful in Philippine history, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Monday night, 11 August.
During the 10-day voter registration period for the BSKE from 1 to 10 August, a total of 2,727,643 registrations were processed by the Comelec.
In an interview with reporters, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said 65 percent of those who registered were youth.
"Overall, our registration was very peaceful, it was successful. Let's expect that when any election comes, our countrymen will flock to the polling precincts," Garcia said.
"Our countrymen have changed, especially when it comes to political maturity," he added.
Garcia said the voter registration applications received will still undergo an Election Registration Board hearing for approval or disapproval on 25 August.
The Comelec chief thanked partner malls and government agencies for “providing convenience and comfort” to Filipino registrants by allotting suitable voter registration venues.
During the 10-day BSKE registration, 35 SM malls and 11 more SM establishments nationwide served as official satellite registration hubs. The poll body also brought its registration to select train stations.
Garcia also expressed gratitude to civil organizations, uniformed personnel, and Comelec employees.
"Lastly, our registrants, the Filipino people, we express our endless gratitude for showing willingness and interest in registering as a voter, a genuine resolute to participate in our electoral and democratic process," he added.
The Comelec reiterated that it will continue preparations for the BSKE despite the looming postponement.
The enrolled bill seeking to postpone and reset the 1 December 2025 BSKE will lapse into law on 14 August, or may be signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
