Much headway has been made in the beauty industry over the last decade, with people learning to prioritize clean or natural ingredients, transparency in the products they use and efficacy or real results. Hype can only work so much.

When the pandemic hit, science and technology played a more prominent role in the beauty sales pitch. Even the most established brands had to banner their clinical studies, and those who sought a wider, younger market introduced new versions of their top sellers, going into the latest innovations like refillable containers and other sustainable practices, as well as the science-backed skincare and treatments that promise “deeper” yet safer results.

In recent days, DAILY TRIBUNE came across a number of revolutionary solutions for skin and hair health, among them a tandem of treatments that actually “brings out your skin’s full potential.”

Your skin is alive

In skincare and cosmetics, the top formulations today include ingredients like exosome and bio-retinol. Lately, we came across a newly introduced skincare trend that picks up on the benefits of microbiome — a skincare revolution, it has been called, which works by restoring the skin’s natural balance.

Microbiomes exist in our body. Defined as “a community of microorganisms (such as fungi, bacteria and viruses) that exists in a particular environment,” microbiomes are being harnessed to produce skincare rituals that revives the skin.

Maria Brockman from Healthspan Global, Inc., which distributes international pharmaceutical products to various clinics across the Philippines, tells DAILY TRIBUNE that its newest regimen called Biojuve uses “the power of probiotics to bring your skin back to life.”

Usually paired with Skin Pen, the first United States Food and Drug Authority (US FDA)-approved microneedling device, Biojuve is unlike other skincare routines as it uses patented technology that “goes beyond the surface to balance the skin’s microbiome, while naturally producing antioxidants, proteins, polypeptides, fatty acids and more 24/7,” the brand states in its website.

A simple AM/PM routine includes the Conditioning Cleanse — Prebiotic (just a pea-sized amount can cover the whole face and neck) to prepare the skin for the Biome Support Complex — Postbiotic (morning only) and Living Biome Essentials Duo — Probiotic (nighttime only). After two weeks, it will “reduce the appearance of redness, promote proper hydration and improve the appearance of skin texture, tone, pore size, fine lines, wrinkles and photodamage on all skin types.” Your skin will feel like it is healthy again.

“It is backed by over, I think, 90 validation studies, so it’s really, really trusted for safety,” adds Brockman. “It may actually stand alone as an aging treatment, and in combination with Skin Pen, which are in most clinics now, it targets patients 40 years old and above.”

The Skin Pen, meanwhile, addresses acne scars, pigmentation, fine lines and stretch marks. The skincare routine boosts and prolongs the results “in just a very short amount of time,” Brockman says.

The good oil for hair

Among the most neglected parts of one’s anti-aging routine, the hair (or how badly it has been ignored) one day shocks you with its thin, stringy condition at some point. What good is your smooth, youthful skin when your hair is a mess?

While beauty giants like L’Oreal have come up with a host of targeted solutions, the most recent one to present a solution is Dyson, with Dyson Omega nourishing range. Dry hair, the brand says, is the number one hair health concern globally, citing Hair Formulation Category Study 2021.

For over two years, Dyson engineers worked on a nourishing oil, a patented product named Dyson Oli7 blend.

The promises are 94 percent stronger hair and increased shine by up to 261 percent. This is “backed by 12 years of hair science research and 13 years of agricultural expertise.”
