Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) has partnered with Mapua University to develop Power Systems 101 learning modules aimed at enhancing public understanding of the Philippine energy sector.
The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of agreement (MOA), under which the two institutions will collaborate on creating technical and engineering-based learning tools for key stakeholders. These include local government officials and regulators, community leaders, business partners, and educators.
The modules are designed to be delivered through onsite learning sessions conducted by AboitizPower, focusing on critical components of power generation, transmission, and distribution. The initiative marks a strategic extension of AboitizPower’s earlier Power 101 program developed in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Los Baños, which emphasized the financial and economic dimensions of the energy system.
“This initiative is a strategic step to reach out to our stakeholders by creating a platform for sharing knowledge and information,” said AboitizPower First Vice President for External Relations Jason Magnaye. He emphasized that the program forms part of the company’s broader efforts to foster a shared understanding of the country’s energy landscape.
Mapua University, known for its engineering and technology programs, will take the lead in shaping the academic structure of the learning content.
“AboitizPower will bring industry expertise in this partnership, while Mapua will be in charge of making sure the academic framework is there in upskilling and capacitating our [stakeholders],” said Mapua President and CEO Dr. Dodjie Maestrecampo.
The Power Systems 101 project underscores the importance of energy education in supporting informed decision-making and productive dialogue among stakeholders, especially amid ongoing developments in the Philippine power sector.
