The United States Dairy Export Council (USDEC) and Subway Philippines have teamed up to launch the new Triple Cheese Steak Sub, unveiled on Tuesday.

This limited-edition sub features all-natural American Cheddar, Colby Jack, and Monterey Jack cheeses paired with seasoned steak, green peppers, white onions, jalapeños, and a drizzle of Southwest Chipotle sauce, all served in freshly baked cheese bread.

“We’re especially excited about this collaboration as USA cheeses are 100 percent natural — perfectly aligned with our commitment to offering healthier options for Filipino consumers,” shared Chef Benjamin Fong, Head of Culinary Innovation for Subway APAC, in a company statement.

Fong told DAILY TRIBUNE that the planning process took about six months, following the start of the collaboration in late 2024.

“Planning process, I'm gonna say six months. Though usually longer, but we met officially some time in December, last year, and then officially kickstart with the project after new year, January,” he said.

When asked about tailoring the sub to Filipino tastes, Fong expressed confidence in its appeal, especially among younger consumers.

“I think it’s going to do well — but you guys are the judge of that. Every time we introduce American flavors, they seem to resonate well with Gen Y and Gen Z in the Philippines,” he added.

Jamie Lee, Senior Program Manager of the USA Cheese Guild, said the collaboration was based on modern customer research.

“We conduct research. Customers are becoming more health-conscious, and one of the key selling points of this collaboration is that the cheese is all-natural,” Lee shared.

She also underscored their goal to expand the presence of U.S. cheeses in the local market.

“We support retailers through collaborations like this to boost awareness and visibility of U.S. cheese. The cheeses are already in the market — what we’re doing now is amplifying and expanding knowledge about them in the Philippines,” she said.

When asked if the Triple Cheese Steak Sub could become a permanent menu item, Fong replied, “We never say never.”

The Triple Cheese Steak Sub will be available from 6 August to 2 November in three options: a six-inch à la carte for P220, a 12-inch for P410, and a wrap for P230 (prices may vary).

Another limited-edition U.S. cheese creation, the Gouda Pineapple Ham Sub, featuring Smoked Gouda, will launch on 3 November.
