As monsoon rains continue to cause widespread flooding across the country, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) announced it covers hospitalization for dengue and leptospirosis, two common illnesses during the rainy season.
PhilHealth’s enhanced benefit packages now offer P19,400 for moderate dengue cases and P47,000 for severe dengue. Coverage for leptospirosis has increased to P21,450.
These improvements align with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to make healthcare benefits more accessible and impactful for all Filipinos.
“If you are affected by dengue or leptospirosis despite taking precautions, please go immediately to the nearest PhilHealth-accredited health facility for treatment,” said PhilHealth president and CEO Dr. Edwin M. Mercado.
“Don’t hesitate, because PhilHealth will cover a significant portion of your medical expenses,” he added.
PhilHealth also urged the public to prioritize personal safety during the rainy season. To prevent waterborne diseases and leptospirosis infection, the agency strongly advises avoiding wading or playing in floodwaters, washing hands before eating and after using the restroom, and drinking clean water. Ensuring food is clean and properly cooked is also crucial.
To prevent dengue, authorities recommend keeping surroundings clean and using mosquito nets or insect repellent to avoid dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
