The country’s transmission backbone remains stable despite the recent onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Crising, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), which is now closely monitoring the effects of the southwest monsoon or habagat.
The NGCP reported on Monday morning that grid operations in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are “normal and stable.”
“All NGCP transmission facilities are currently under normal conditions,” the operator said.
“We remain ready to activate the 24/7 operations should any threats to transmission operations arise due to the monsoon rains and other weather disturbances,” it added.
In a separate statement, the National Electrification Administration (NEA) said it is closely monitoring the impact of Severe Tropical Storm Crising on electric cooperatives (ECs), with repair works now ongoing.
As of Monday, damage to power infrastructure in Benguet, Mountain Province, and Zambales was estimated at over P1.1 million. Around 5,487 households in Benguet Electri Cooperative (BENECO), Mountain Province Electric Cooperative (MOPRECO), and Abra Electric Cooperative (ABRECO) areas are still without power due to landslides, floods, and fallen trees.
MOPRECO expects full restoration within the day, while BENECO and ABRECO are targeting 22 July.
NEA said Crising affected at least 24 ECs as it hit Luzon last week.
