Flash floods

In Pangasinan, the Sangguniang Bayan of the Umingan municipality, in a resolution, declared the town under a state of calamity due to the effects of the flood caused by continuous rains.

The resolution that was unanimously approved on 18 July stated there were incidents of widespread flash floods in numerous areas of the town and almost 30 barangays have been affected. Because of that, displacement, disruption of public services as well as considerable losses in the local economy and the livelihood of the people in the municipality were observed.

“Wherefore, it is imperative that the local government of Umingan take immediate and decisive actions to address the damages, provide relief to the affected residents and implement the necessary measures for recovery and rehabilitation,” the resolution stated.

The declaration will give way to the release of pre-allocated calamity funds from the national and local government levels, which will be used for rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and the provision of basic services to affected populations.

Pangasinan Governor Ramon Guico III immediately ordered the delivery of relief goods and other assistance to the flood-affected residents of Umingan.
