ASA Philippines marks 21 years, launches 'grow hope' vision
ASA Philippines Foundation, the country’s largest non-profit microfinance organization, is commemorating its 21st anniversary this July by unveiling a renewed vision aimed at deepening its commitment to poverty alleviation through inclusive financial services and social development.
What began in 2004 as a mission to provide accessible capital to underserved women entrepreneurs has grown into a nationwide operation with 1,814 branches and more than 2.2 million active borrowers. ASA Philippines plays a key role in supporting the government’s broader poverty reduction agenda by promoting grassroots entrepreneurship.
The organization’s core service, Microbusiness Financing, funds small enterprises such as neighborhood stores, eateries, bakeries, and street vending operations. Its loan offerings have expanded to include Agriculture Financing and, notably, Islamic Microfinancing in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The Islamic financing program is guided by a dedicated Shari’ah Advisory Council to ensure culturally sensitive implementation.
Clients can borrow amounts ranging from ₱1,000 to ₱300,000, repayable in equal weekly installments. As of June 2025, ASA’s total loan portfolio has reached ₱41.2 billion. The foundation’s model emphasizes trust and shared success, offering performance-based rebates to qualifying clients.
ASA Philippines’ approach combines access to capital with a broader social mission. Members in good standing who are on their second loan cycle and beyond become eligible for subsidiary financing programs, including loans for home improvement, education, and water and sanitation.
The foundation also allocates over ₱1 billion annually to its social development programs, in line with the legacy of the late Ambassador Howard Dee. These initiatives provide health, nutrition, and educational assistance to the children and families of ASA’s clients.
“These 21 years are a testament to the incredible resilience and unwavering spirit of our Nanay partners as well as the tireless and courageous work of our staff. They are the true heroes of our story. Our role has always been to be a steadfast partner on their journey towards a better tomorrow. As we look to the future, we want our identity to reflect this ever-deepening commitment. This is why we are introducing our new themeline, ‘Palaguin ang Pag-asa.’ It is not just a slogan; it is our renewed promise to work hand-in-hand with every hardworking staff and enterprising Nanay to grow hope, nurture their dreams, and shape more empowered citizens in communities we serve,” said Rafael “Rapa” C. Lopa, President and CEO of ASA Philippines.
As part of its anniversary celebration, ASA Philippines officially launched its new logo and the themeline “Palaguin ang Pag-asa.” The rebranding reflects the foundation’s commitment to an integrated approach to development and its belief that accessible financing and holistic social support are essential to lasting change.
