GCash has teamed up with Huawei to introduce Watch Pay, the country’s first-ever wearable payment innovation, bringing Filipinos a new, secure, and hands-free way to pay through smartwatches.
Designed for speed, convenience, and mobility, Watch Pay allows users to link their GCash account to a compatible Huawei smartwatch and generate a personal QR code directly on the device. This QR code can then be scanned by merchants with point-of-sale scanners, completing transactions instantly—without needing to take out a phone or wallet.
“As digital payment solutions become increasingly essential, GCash Watch Pay eliminates the need to pull out a phone or wallet during purchases. Users can link their GCash account to a compatible Huawei smartwatch and generate a QR code directly from the device,” said Ren-Ren Reyes, president and CEO of G-Xchange, Inc., the mobile wallet operator behind GCash.
The feature aims to serve users on the go—during workouts, commutes, or busy errands—where accessing a mobile phone or physical wallet may not be ideal. The collaboration marks a new step in GCash’s mission to streamline financial transactions and build secure, mobile-centric payment solutions.
The partnership also made waves at the Huawei Developer Conference in Dongguan, China, where Dani Gil Librojo, GCash Payment Innovations Head, showcased the wearable payment solution. According to GCash, the QR payment feature is now available to 7 million Huawei smartwatch users in the Philippines.
“By bringing payments to a wearable device, GCash, together with Huawei, is responding to the growing need for simple and secure payment options in today’s fast-paced, mobile-centric world,” the company said.
Watch Pay is currently supported on select Huawei smartwatch models and compatible with merchants using the Business Scan Consumer system.
