A two-day seminar on System-Wide Information Management (SWIM) was conducted by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) from 3 to 4 July, aimed at improving air traffic management across aviation stakeholders.
According to CAAP, the seminar focused on introducing a more streamlined framework for information exchange between airports, airlines, air navigation service providers, and weather agencies.
SWIM is a global initiative under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) designed to modernize how aviation-related information is managed and exchanged.
Traditionally, air traffic systems operate with separate and locally maintained communication formats, which result in higher operational costs and inefficiencies.
This is addressed by SWIM through standardized data models, infrastructure, and governance support to ensure interoperable information sharing.
CAAP Director General Raul Del Rosario said the seminar will help the Philippines develop information systems at par with SWIM and with other neighboring countries.
The Asia/Pacific Region has adopted a timeframe of 2024 to 2030 for implementing the Asia/Pacific SWIM, with a target completion year of 2030.
