Alex Eala's historic stint in the Wimbledon Championships comes to an end as she and Eva Lys of Germany lost to Ingrid Martins of Brazil and Quinn Gleason of the United States, 4-6, 2-6, in the first round of the women's doubles on Thursday (Manila time) at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in London.
Eala and Lys played hard for one hour and 24 minutes but weren't able to beat Martins and Gleason.
The 20-year-old Rafael Nadal Academy already lost to defending champion Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 2-6, 1-6, in the first round of the women's singles last Tuesday.
Still, the Rafael Nadal Academy graduate is still poised to reach a new career-best rank of No. 54 based on the latest Women's Tennis Association live rankings.
The Wimbledon Championships is Eala's second Grand Slam since becoming a professional tennis player in 2020.
