Phl wins UN E-Gov Award
The Philippines has been selected as one of only 12 countries out of 193 to receive the UN E-Government Award, recognizing the nation’s remarkable progress in digital governance from 2022 to 2024.
On 25 June, the award was conferred by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) during a special segment of the 2025 UN Public Service Forum held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The recognition honors countries that have made significant strides in the UN E-Government Development Index (EGDI) and the Online Service Index (OSI) — two global benchmarks for measuring government digital performance.
The UN DESA cited the Philippines’ notable leap in digital government development, including its reclassification from “High” to “Very High” in both the EGDI and OSI, with a more than 15-place jump in the global EGDI rankings and a 15% increase in OSI performance from 2022 to 2024.
Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary for E-Government David Almirol Jr. said the award reflects the administration’s sustained efforts to digitalize public services and make them more accessible, secure, and citizen-centric.
“This global recognition by the UN validates the Philippines’ digital transformation roadmap under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., aligning with his vision to make government services more efficient, inclusive, and future-ready,” Almirol said.
The recognition follows the successful rollout of several key digital platforms by the DICT, most notably the eGov PH Super App, which now has over 13 million users, 47 integrated service modules, and more than 150 million transactions.
The eGovDX platform has processed over 500 million transactions, connecting more than 1,000 national and local government systems via its eNGA and eLGU platforms.
To date, 21 out of 25 eGovernment platforms have been deployed, including eGovAI, eGovPay, eReport, eGovDocs, eSignature, eResume, and eTravel.
In addition, the Digital National ID now supports eKYC features, with over 87 million digital national IDs generated out of 93 million registrants.
These services are supported by the eGovCloud project, which optimizes four multi-cloud services and hosts more than 3,000 government system servers.
The UN Digital Government Award, given during UN Public Service Day, marks a major milestone for the Philippines in advancing digital governance and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This achievement follows recent wins at the 2025 GovMedia Awards in Singapore, where the eGov PH Super App was named E-Governance Project of the Year, and the eGovDX Platform was recognized for Digital Transformation of the Year.
