ACEN Corp. and its partner UPC Renewables have begun building 540 megawatts (MW) of solar and wind projects in India to expand their presence in the country’s growing clean energy market.
The Ayala-led company said Wednesday that the 420 MW solar farm in Rajasthan and 120 MW wind farm in Karnataka are scheduled for completion by 2027.
Together, the projects are expected to generate 1,158 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually, enough to power about 241,000 homes and avoid over 876,000 tons of carbon emissions each year.
“These new projects represent not just scale, but momentum—as we continue to turn opportunities into action," said Patrice Clausse, ACEN International CEO and group chief investment officer.
"Our enduring partnership with UPC Renewables has been instrumental in enabling disciplined capital deployment across high-potential markets like India,” he added.
The solar farm in Rajasthan’s high-irradiance Barmer region will produce 767 GWh annually, while the Karnataka wind project will harness strong monsoonal winds to deliver 391 GWh per year. Over 1,500 green jobs are expected to be created during construction.
For Brian Caffyn, chairman and group CEO of UPC Renewables, the start of construction represents “another important milestone in our expansion across Asia-Pacific, reinforcing our commitment to scalable and sustainable energy solutions.”
“Following the successful deployment of 630 MWp of solar capacity in India, this next phase further strengthens our trusted partnership with ACEN and the excellent team in India driving this vision forward,” he added.
The new developments expand ACEN and UPC’s existing footprint in India, which already includes the operational 420 MW Masaya Solar, 70 MW Paryapt Solar, and 140 MW Sitara Solar projects.
