The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has launched an initiative aiming to create 8 million digital jobs by 2028.

The program, called “Trabahong Digital,” was announced over the weekend during the opening of National ICT Month in Basco, Batanes.

“The rollout of this flagship program marks a bold step toward inclusive economic recovery and digital transformation under the leadership of newly appointed DICT Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda,” said Assistant Secretary Renato Paraiso, the agency’s spokesperson.

The program aligns with this year’s National ICT Month theme, “Walang Iwanan sa Digital Bayanihan,” emphasizing the agency’s commitment to digital inclusion.

“Trabahong Digital” seeks to expand internet connectivity nationwide, particularly in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. It also aims to equip Filipinos with digital skills for remote work.

Aguda, who could not attend the event in person, stated in a message, “The true spirit of progress and nation-building is when everyone rises together by helping one another.”

The new DICT chief's agenda also includes strengthening data privacy protocols and holding digital platforms accountable for removing fake job advertisements to protect digital workers.

Additionally, the DICT is working to modernize public services through more efficient and accessible e-services.

“Driving the digital-first economy will maximize job opportunities and business growth through digital skills empowerment and by providing our people with the tools they need to succeed,” Aguda said.

The DICT expressed confidence in achieving its job creation goals, citing partnerships with local government units, state universities and colleges, and private sector stakeholders.

The agency also cited its alignment with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s digital priorities of employment generation through the digital economy and nationwide internet connectivity.
