Alex Eala shifts her focus to the women’s doubles of the French Open after an early exit in the women’s singles last Sunday at the Roland Garros Stadium in Paris.
The 20-year-old netter is grateful to enter her first Grand Slam as a professional despite suffering a 0-6, 6-2, 3-6 loss against Emiliana Arango of Colombia in the first round.
“First Grand Slam main draw in the books! Back to the drawing board for now, but will come back stronger next time,” Eala said.
Eala is currently joining forces with Renata Zarazua of Mexico as they battle Emily Appleton of Great Britain and Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers of Spain in the first round at press time.
While the Rafael Nadal Academy graduate didn’t make a deep run, she is still poised to join more Grand Slams in the future.
For one, Eala is currently No. 69 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, giving her an automatic berth in major competitions.
Eala has a good chance to make it to the Wimbledon Championships on 30 June as long as she stays within the Top 100 of the WTA rankings.
But for now, Eala will focus on the women’s doubles of the French Open as she guns for a Grand Slam title.
After all, it was in doubles that she won her first two Junior Grand Slam crowns, the 2020 Australian Open and the 2021 French Open.
