Rain or Shine credited its three-point shooting for its masterful victory over erstwhile unbeaten Magnolia in the Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup late Sunday at the Ynares Center-Montalban.
Elasto Painters head coach Yeng Guiao said they had a very good shooting night in which they drained 15 three-pointers to destroy the Hotshots and hand them their first loss of the all-Filipino conference with a 119-105 victory.
Guiao said beating the mighty Hotshots is a good morale-booster for them as they intensify their bid for a quarterfinal spot.
“We were making our three-point shots and we were able to play at our own pace. We liked the pace of the game,” the 66-year-old Guiao said.
“We had 29 assists. I think everybody was able to score and contribute offensively, but much more so defensively.”
“We were hoping that the moment Magnolia played badly, it would happen against us. It’s a good thing it happened.”
True enough, the Elasto Painters were firing on all cylinders against the Hotshots.
Everyone in the roster buried at least one three-pointer with Adrian Nocum leading the offensive attack with 20 points.
They also outran and outhustled the Hotshots with 26 fastbreak points to secure their fourth win in six matches, putting them two wins away from securing a spot in the playoffs.
“We’re chasing six wins. This is so that we can at least get into the quarterfinals,” said Guiao, looking to bounce back after getting swept by San Miguel Beer in the semifinals of the same conference last year.
“We’re at 4-2 right now, so we need to win at least two more games.”
