New Naga Airport project to boost Bicol air travel capacity

New Naga Airport project to boost Bicol air travel capacity
Published on

As the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) prepare to develop a new airport site, Naga Airport will undergo significant upgrades to help position the Bicol area as a future-ready aviation center.

Under the national "Build Better More" infrastructure program led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon, these airport enhancements reflect the government's commitment to modernizing transportation infrastructure across the country.

According to CAAP, Phase 1 of the proposed New Naga Airport Development Project — which includes site preparation and earthworks — is scheduled to begin in September 2025.

This initiative is part of the broader Naga Airport Reorientation Project, which aims to construct a modern airport capable of full jet operations, both day and night, in compliance with international civil aviation standards. Once completed, the new facility is expected to accommodate the rising air traffic demands of Camarines Sur while supporting Naga City and nearby municipalities as key growth hubs in the Bicol region.

Meanwhile, improvements to the existing Naga Airport are ongoing. One of the major projects is the runway asphalt overlay, completed in two phases. Phase 1 was funded under CAAP’s APP 2025 with a contract amount of P85.2 million, while Phase 2 was covered under APP 2024 with P71.5 million in funding.

With both proposed and ongoing upgrades, all travelers — especially Bicolanos — can expect safer, more efficient, and more convenient air travel experiences via Naga Airport.
