The Lakas-CMD party, led by House Speaker Martin Romualdez, has secured nearly 600 local posts in the 2025 midterm elections, including 104 seats in the House of Representatives, solidifying its influence in the lower chamber.
The winning congressional candidates will comprise approximately one-third of the 316-seat House, maintaining Lakas-CMD’s position as a dominant bloc.
Lakas-CMD fielded 6,114 candidates nationwide, including senatorial candidates Ramon Revilla and Erwin Tulfo, 125 congressional district candidates and numerous gubernatorial, mayoral, and other local positions.
Tulfo won a Senate seat, placing fourth in the 12-seat race with 16.8 million votes based on partial and unofficial counts as of Wednesday afternoon.
Romualdez’s office reported that 104 Lakas-CMD candidates won congressional seats, including Romualdez himself, with 79 re-elected and 25 newly elected representatives.
The party also secured 15 governorships, 22 vice governorships, 24 city mayoralties, 23 city vice mayoralties, and 385 municipal mayoralties.
Vote counting is still ongoing in 26 areas, including the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte), Region IX (Sulu) and Region X (Lanao del Norte), potentially increasing the party’s numbers.
The results indicate Lakas-CMD’s continued dominance in the House, which plays a crucial role in passing President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s legislative agenda, and its strong presence at the local level.
Romualdez and Marcos are cousins, and Lakas-CMD formed an alliance with Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas, a multi-coalition that includes Marcos’ Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.
The House’s continued dominance by administration allies is expected to facilitate the passage of Marcos’ priority bills and policy reforms.
Currently, Lakas-CMD holds 112 seats in the House, and the 104 incoming members could increase in the coming months.
Romualdez pledged that Lakas-CMD will maintain its majority leadership in the House.
“This is not just a win for Lakas-CMD. This is a strong signal from the Filipino people: they want steady hands, clear direction, and leadership that puts service above self,” Romualdez said.
“Together with our partners in the Alyansa, we will continue to push for laws that create jobs, protect the vulnerable, improve education, and strengthen our democracy,” he added.
