Haribon Foundation and Manulife Philippines have set a mangrove planting activity in Quezon.

The two-day event will include informative discussions on biodiversity conducted by Haribon Foundation specialists, plus wildling seedling preparation on the first day.

It offers a meaningful opportunity to see environmental conservation work up close and learn about the collaborative sustainability efforts between Manulife Philippines and the Haribon Foundation, according to the organizer’s press release.

Participants will also be toured to community partners supported by Haribon Foundation and Manulife.

On the second day, participants will be ferried by boat to the planting site.

The mangrove planting initiative is part of Manulife and Haribon Foundation’s “ridge to reef” approach to ecological restoration, a collaboration that began in 2022 and has since evolved to include a commitment to planting 15,000 mangrove seedlings in Quezon and Rizal by 2028.

The project aligns with Manulife’s Impact Agenda, their long-term strategy for implementing meaningful programs that enhance sustained health and well-being, foster inclusive economic opportunity, and accelerate a sustainable future to safeguard the planet.

The mangroves themselves serve multiple purposes: protecting coastal communities from storm surges, creating nurseries for fish to support local fishermen, and contributing to restoration efforts by addressing the loss of approximately 140,000 hectares of mangrove forests in the Philippines since 1920.
