First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos recently visited the SpaceX rocket launch facility in Cape Canaveral, Florida, where she witnessed firsthand the advanced technology behind the aerospace company’s cutting-edge initiatives and reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to expanding digital connectivity.

In a social media post on Friday, Marcos described the visit as a “mind-blowing experience” that showcased the potential of satellite technology to connect even the most remote corners of the globe.

“Rocket science, up close and personal at the SpaceX launch facility!” she wrote.

“We got front row seats to how cutting-edge tech is shaping the future of digital connectivity — reaching even the farthest corners of the world, including our very own Philippines,” she added.

The visit was part of the First Lady’s US itinerary, which includes engagements focused on innovation, education, and technology.

She also highlighted the importance of Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service, in improving access to connectivity in underserved and geographically isolated communities in the Philippines.

A day earlier, on 6 May, the First Lady attended a welcome dinner reception at the Lake Nona Wave Hotel in Orlando where she witnessed the launch of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.

“What a thrill to witness where the magic begins,” she said.

“In this fast-moving digital age, there’s definitely space for stronger and more inclusive connectivity. Proud moment: the Philippines was one of the first in our region to embrace Starlink. Onward and upward!”

The Philippines began rolling out Starlink services in 2023, becoming one of the first countries in Southeast Asia to adopt the low-earth orbit satellite internet system.

The technology is viewed as a crucial tool for bridging the digital divide across the archipelago.
