The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has stepped up security at ports and tourist destinations nationwide, mobilising as many as 17,000 personnel to keep travel safe and orderly for Holy Week vacationers.
PCG Deputy Spokesperson Commander Michael John Encina said teams on “heightened alert” are conducting pre‑departure checks at ports and safety inspections at resorts. Coast Guard Auxiliaries, Malasakit Help Desks and K‑9 units have also been fielded to bolster security.
The operation is being carried out in close coordination with local governments, disaster‑risk offices and coastal barangays.
Encina noted, “So, malawak po ang ginagawa ng PCG ngayon at paghahanda upang ma-ensure at matiyak po natin na ang Mahal na Araw ay magiging safe and secure sa ating mga bakasyunista at turista (The PCG is doing extensive preparations to ensure that the Holy Week will be safe and secure for our vacationers and tourists).”
Beach resorts and recreational sites have undergone checks to confirm the presence of authorised lifeguards, medical clinics and first‑aid responders. Districts, stations and sub‑stations remain on heightened alert from 13 April to 20 April 2025 to manage the expected passenger surge.
Travellers may contact the Coast Guard through its official Facebook page or the Coast Guard Public Affairs Service at 0927 560 7729 for sea‑travel enquiries during Holy Week.
