The Philippines will send a lean but potent five-man weightlifting team in the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
The national squash team braces for a tough schedule as they compete in a series of tournaments from May to July this year.
Starting from 2 to 4 May, Kayod Pilipinas will be in Thailand competing in the Chiang Mai Cup in Thailand with the juniors squad joining them for the Southeast Asian Junior Squash Championship from 9 to 13 May.
After competing in Thailand, the junior squash team will be in Singapore for the Lion City Junior Open from 31 May to 4 June.
Kayod Pilipinas will then compete in the 23rd Asian Individual Squash Championships in Malaysia from 17 to 21 June while the juniors squad will be competing in the 32nd Asian Junior Individual Championships in Gimcheon, Korea from 1 to 5 July.
The junior national team will return to Malaysia from 15 to 20 July for the Borneo Junior Open.
For Kayod Pilipinas coach Edgar Balleber, these competitions should serve as opportunities for them to continue honing their craft for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand from 9 to 20 December.
The national squash netters finished with one gold, two silver and two bronze medals in their previous stint in the biennial meet in Manila in 2019.
“Longer hours of practice. They’ll see what can help them in their practice so that they can improve their game,” Balleber said.
“We should teach them the correct technique. Discipline is the biggest thing. A lot of patience and perseverance as well.”
