The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported that construction of the Bucana Bridge Project is now approximately 80 percent complete.
According to DPWH Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, the 1.34-kilometer, four-lane bridge is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in Davao City.
Implemented by the Unified Project Management Office – Bridges Management Cluster (UPMO-BMC), the P3.126-billion project is designed to accommodate around 35,000 vehicles daily once it becomes operational.
The Bucana Bridge is funded through an Official Development Assistance (ODA) grant from the Government of the People’s Republic of China and forms part of the broader Davao City Coastal Road network. This new infrastructure is expected to help decongest urban roads and improve east-west connectivity across the city.
Sadain noted that these milestones were achieved just 16 months after the project broke ground in November 2023.
“Expected to be fully operational by November 2025, the bridge will enhance connectivity across Davao City’s coastal areas," Sadain said.
"It is poised to become a vital infrastructure landmark in Mindanao, driving regional economic growth, improving agricultural logistics, and supporting tourism and access to essential services," he added.
