Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon assured the public that the government is committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of travelers this Lenten season.

Dizon, during a press conference on Thursday, noted that President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. had issued a directive for all government agencies to step up their preparations in anticipation of the Semana Santa exodus.

He relayed the President’s message, emphasizing, “Kailangan ligtas at komportable, kahit papaano gagawin nating komportable ang pagbyahe ngayong parating na Semana Santa (It needs to be safe and comfortable; we will try to make the travel as comfortable as possible this coming Holy Week).”

To improve the passenger experience, Dizon said the DOTr is working closely with the Bureau of Immigration, Department of Migrant Workers, Department of Tourism, and airport operators, including New NAIA Infra Corp. and the Manila International Airport Authority.

Improvements have been made to lounge areas, restrooms, shower facilities, massage chair services, immigration and security procedures, and connecting areas within airport terminals.

However, despite the government’s efforts to improve transportation systems, Dizon reminded the public that disruptions are inevitable due to the sheer number of people traveling and appealed for patience.

Airport privatization
Dizon also pointed out ongoing efforts to enhance airport operations, especially during peak travel periods. He highlighted the benefits of private sector involvement, noting that plans are underway to place more airports under private management.

He explained that the private sector can expedite processes such as renovations and procurement, which often move slowly under government systems due to bureaucratic requirements.

Ang private sector, alam nila kung paano i-maximize ang lugar, kung paano gawing mas mabilis ang proseso na dinadaanan ng (mga) pasahero (The private sector knows how to maximize space and make the process that passengers go through much faster),” Dizon added.
