Upholding justice and unity: Reflections on Eid al-Fitr
“As Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has often emphasized, the work of the DoJ is not simply about enforcing the law, but about ensuring fairness and promoting peace.

As our Muslim brothers and sisters across the country mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan, the Department of Justice joins in celebrating Eid al-Fitr — a time of joy, renewal, and reflection.
But beyond the traditional greetings and well wishes, this occasion also offers an opportunity to appreciate the deeper values that guide not only the faithful but all who seek to build a society grounded in justice and compassion.
Ramadan is a time of spiritual discipline, self-restraint, and sacrifice. For an entire month, Muslims engage in fasting, prayer, and acts of charity, renewing their connection with God and with their communities. These practices are not just religious obligations; they are powerful expressions of the values that should underpin a just society: compassion for the vulnerable, integrity in one’s actions and an unwavering commitment to what is right.
These values resonate deeply with the mission of the Department of Justice. At its core, justice is about recognizing the dignity of every person, protecting the rights of the marginalized and holding individuals accountable for their actions — principles that align with the Islamic ideals of Adl (justice), Rahmah (mercy), and Amanah (trust).
In this way, Eid al-Fitr is not just a Muslim celebration — it is a moment that invites us all to reflect on how we can embody these values in public service and in our everyday lives.
At a time when our society is grappling with complex challenges — from ensuring human rights to addressing corruption and strengthening our institutions — we must continue to be guided by the principles that faith and law share. Justice must be impartial. It must be restorative. And it must always serve the people.
As Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has often emphasized, the work of the DoJ is not simply about enforcing the law, but about ensuring fairness and promoting peace. In honoring the sacred values of Ramadan, we are reminded that true justice cannot exist without empathy, humility, and a sense of shared responsibility.
To all our Muslim brothers and sisters: Eid Mubarak. May the spirit of this season inspire all Filipinos to recommit to truth, accountability, and compassion. As we celebrate your faith, we also celebrate the values that strengthen our democracy and move us closer to a society where justice truly prevails for all.
