In a world where self-care often feels like a luxury, Hikari Skin Essentials (formerly Beauty&U) emerged as a beacon of accessibility and empowerment. Founded in the midst of the 2020 pandemic, this dynamic brand is rewriting the rules of skincare, proving that glowing skin and financial freedom can go hand-in-hand.
The story begins with a personal struggle. Co-founder S. Ralph Lim, driven by his own battles with acne, envisioned a brand that would democratize skincare. Partnering with Michael Rey Almazan, he launched Hikari Skin Essentials with a simple yet powerful mission: To create safe, affordable and effective products for everyone.
“We believe that everyone deserves to feel confident in their own skin,” says Lim, CEO of BAU International, Inc. “Our goal was to create a brand that not only delivers visible results, but also empowers individuals to take control of their lives.”
Launched with just three core products in September 2020, Hikari Skin Essentials has rapidly expanded its portfolio to 28 innovative offerings. The brand has become a pioneer, notably with its Hikari Japan Glutathione with Oral Sunblock Technology, a testament to its commitment to pushing the boundaries of skincare and wellness.
But Hikari Skin Essentials is more than just a product line. It’s a movement, fueled by the mantra, “Gumaganda ka na, kumikita ka pa (You get more beautiful, and you also earn).
The brand is built on a foundation of empowerment, offering not just skincare solutions, but also opportunities for financial growth through its thriving distributor network. From working student to CEO
Lim’s entrepreneurial spirit was ignited early in life. Facing hardship after his father’s passing, he balanced his studies with multiple jobs, working at a doughnut shop and a local factory.
His determination paid off, graduating cum laude and building a successful career in multinational companies and a local TV network.
However, Lim’s passion for entrepreneurship led him to co-found BAU International Inc., where he now serves as CEO. His personal journey fuels his commitment to providing opportunities for others.
Almazan’s story is one of resilience. Growing up in a large family, he learned the value of hard work early on, selling cosmetics during high school to help with his allowance.
His academic excellence earned him a Science and Technology scholarship, leading to successful leadership roles in multinational companies.
When the pandemic abruptly ended his 10-year career, Almazan embraced the challenge, co-founding BAU International Inc. as president. His experience in management and his drive to succeed are instrumental in Hikari’s growth.
Hikari Skin Essentials’ focus on quality ingredients, innovative formulations and accessible pricing has resonated with a growing global audience.
As Hikari Skin Essentials continues to expand its global footprint, its core mission remains unchanged: to inspire transformation and empower individuals to believe in their own potential. The enterprising duo behind the brand believe they are not just selling skincare, but also cultivating a community of confident, empowered individuals who are ready to glow up and grow.
