Almost 5,000 Filipinos abroad are currently enrolled in internet voting as of 24 March, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced Monday.
Comelec Chairperson George Garcia previously reminded the over 1.2 million registered overseas voters to start enrolling for internet voting.
"After two days of encouraging overseas voters to enroll for internet voting, almost 5,000 Filipinos have already enrolled and we believe that more Filipinos will register in the coming days," Garcia said in Filipino.
"And we're happy because their enrollment was fast and hopefully, the number of registered overseas voters will be the same number of enrolled voters for internet voting," he added.
There are a total of 1,241,690 registered overseas voters.
A total of 77 posts will be using the Online Voting and Counting System (OVCS), while the remaining 16 Philippine embassies and consulates general will use the automated counting machines.
The overseas voting period will be from 13 April to 12 May. They will be voting for national positions only or 12 senators and one party-list group.
